Artist Statement
John Vorstadt is a painter and ceramic artist creating functional tableware, fine ceramics and paintings. His ceramic forms are pinched or wheel thrown highlighting craft, the maker and the artist's hand. Often he uses motifs of native New York wildlife depicting struggles of life, work and the everlasting pursuit of “the finer things”.
The abstract mixed media paintings John creates delve into how he perceives particular moments of time and space using color pattern and repetition. These two dimensional pieces are more of a living diary. Both mediums equally important to him, one dealing with fine craftsmanship, the other being quick snapshots of his reality.
